Five Simple Joys of Autumn

Five Simple Joys of Autumn

Autumn has always been my favourite season. While I’ll happily take a sunny afternoon in the park (or, more truthfully, a pub garden), I’ve always felt that we Brits are at our most natural when the weather turns. There’s something about grey skies and drizzle that just feels right - like we’re built for it.

So what does autumn mean to you? For me, it’s a chance to embrace a slower pace, indulge in a few comforts and make the most of the darker evenings. Here are five of my go-to joys for the season ahead.

1. Neighbourhood Walks

Crisp air, crunchy leaves, and that golden light you only get in September - there’s nothing like an autumn walk. We’re lucky to be surrounded by so many beautiful spaces, from parks and canals to fields, golf courses, and trails. Even the most ordinary route feels special when framed by autumn colours. 2. Soup Season

Autumn is soup season, and I couldn’t be happier. Soup is one of those meals that manages to be nourishing, kid-friendly and wonderfully comforting all at once. I’ll be sharing a dedicated post soon (yes, I love it that much), but for now, last week’s highlights were wonton soup and a hearty minestrone. Both bowls felt like true soul food.

3. Granola Girl Autumn

Forget Hot Girl Summer - this year I’m leaning into Granola Girl Autumn. To be clear, this isn’t about clean eating. My version is unapologetically sweet, with maple syrup, honey and plenty of crunchy clusters. See the recipe here. It’s the perfect indulgence for a lazy weekend breakfast and tastes every bit as cosy as it sounds.

4. Knitwear Dreams

Nothing says autumn like pulling on your favourite jumper. If you’re looking to add something special to your wardrobe, I can’t recommend Jolanta at @fiftyshadesoftaupe enough. Her custom-made knitwear is beautifully crafted, and one of her jumpers even made it into this issue’s Editor’s Picks.

5. Cosy Nights In

Autumn evenings were made for staying in. For me, that means blankets, a good read, and a mug of something warm. This year, I’ll be adding the Autumn Issue of the magazine to the mix - out in print on 17th September. Keep an eye out for the list of wonderful distributors.

Autumn has a way of drawing us back to life’s simple pleasures - slow walks, warm meals, soft knits, and quiet evenings. It’s a season that reminds us to embrace comfort, without apology. Enjoy x
