Mental Health Week in Ealing: 4 Simple Ways to Keep Calm

Mental Health Week is a valuable moment to slow down, check in with yourself and find calm amidst the chaos of daily life. Whether you’re commuting on the Lizzie Line, working from home or managing a full family schedule, this week is a chance to prioritise your wellbeing - and there’s no better place to do it than right here in Ealing.
Here are four practical and peaceful ways to keep your cool, with a few local highlights and helpful tools to guide you.
1. Take a Long Walk in One of Ealing’s Beautiful Parks
We’re lucky to live in one of the greenest boroughs in London, and the options for outdoor calm are endless. From the open expanses of Walpole Park and Gunnersbury Park, to slightly more hidden gems like Lammas Park and Pitshanger Park, there’s always somewhere nearby to stretch your legs and clear your head.
Just 20 minutes in nature can reduce stress, improve focus and lift your mood.
My personal recommendation is a walk with a Podcast - this week I've been listening to Richard Osman & Marina Hyde's "The Rest is Entertainment."
I recently bough these wireless headphones which are pretty good and a helluva lot cheaper than the Apple ones.
2. Journal with a Coffee – We’re Not Short of a Café or Two
Journaling is a great way to get your thoughts out of your head and onto paper. And here in Ealing, we’re certainly not short of a café or two - some more peaceful than others, depending on the time of day!
Try taking your journal to a quiet table at The Moon & Maybe, Momentum, Element or Cinnamon on the Lane. Let the atmosphere (and a good coffee) guide you into a reflective headspace.
I bought this 6 minute journal off the back of a recommendation from a friend. It's a great way to get your thoughts straight before going to sleep at night so that you start the next day feeling ready to go.
3. Unplug with a Local Book
Digital detoxing doesn’t have to be boring. Instead of scrolling, pick up a real book — and better yet, one written by someone local. We recommend The Power of Mess by Ealing’s own S.C. Lourie, a poetic and empowering reminder to embrace imperfection and live gently.
Keep an eye out for the Summer issue of Ealing Living Magazine (out June 2nd), where we’ll be sharing more brilliant reads by local authors and literary connoisseurs.
4. Sign Up for Yoga, Pilates or a Sound Bath
Moving your body and tuning into sound can work wonders on your stress levels. Locally, you can:
- Join a yoga class at Innovation (they run everything from gentle flow to dynamic vinyasa)
- Try outdoor pilates in Lammas Park for fresh-air fitness
- Book a soothing sound bath at Curious Life, just off St Mary’s Road
Stay well, Ealing - and take a moment this week just for you.
