Finding the balance: work, wellbeing and a little time for yourself at Mode Club West London
For a working mum, finding the time to get everything done can feel like a full-time job in itself. But one local freelancer has discovered that a little change of routine can make all the difference.
Let's face it, being a working mum is a constant juggle. As a freelancer, I technically work from home, which also means I'm on hand for the school pick-ups, drop-offs and all the little things that come with family life. Every day is different, and while the flexibility is wonderful, trying to fit work around everything else can be a challenge.
That's why joining Mode Club West London has made such a difference to my routine. It's not just somewhere to exercise. It's become a place where I can get some work done, look after my health and find a little breathing space in an otherwise busy week.
A change of scene for working from home
One of the biggest benefits is having somewhere to work away from the distractions of home. The quiet Work Hub is ideal for getting my head down and concentrating, while the sunny café provides a lovely spot for a coffee or an informal change of scene. The staff are genuinely warm and welcoming, which makes it all the more inviting.
And because the club offers so much under one roof, it's easier to fit a little exercise into the day rather than treating it as another task on an already lengthy to-do list.
There's a fantastic gym, a 25-metre swimming pool, Reformer Pilates and Padel courts, giving plenty of options depending on how much time I have and what I fancy doing.
Making time to switch off
But the benefits aren't all about productivity. Sometimes, the most important thing is to slow down and take a little time for yourself.
A swim followed by some spa time, a yoga class or a game of tennis can be a welcome way to reset after a busy day. Even something as simple as enjoying the lovely changing facilities and those wonderfully powerful showers can feel like a small luxury when life is hectic.
For parents, there's also the added bonus of soft play and a kids' club, offering options for keeping little ones entertained while you enjoy a coffee or take some time out.
A little more balance
Of course, no membership can make the juggle of work and family life disappear completely. But having a welcoming space that brings together work, fitness, relaxation and family-friendly facilities can make it feel that little bit more manageable.
For me, it's about making the most of the flexibility that comes with freelance life, while remembering that looking after myself matters, too.
Because a healthy work-life balance isn't necessarily about finding more hours in the day. Sometimes, it's about finding somewhere that helps you make better use of the hours you already have.
